This meditation is from my collection Meditations For My Loved Ones. Sitting comfortably, begin by taking deep slow breaths in and out from deep in your stomach. Say the following words to yourself in your heart.
Breathing in, I am blessed
Breathing out, my family is a gift
Breathing in, I am joyous
Breathing out, I am grateful
As you continue with deep, slow, breaths, visualize the face of your new family member or all of them together if there is more than one.
You are grateful for them and excited for the adventure that lies ahead and the strong family ties that you will have.
Visualize beautiful shimmering ties of love between all of you
See a wondrous fabric woven around all of you holding you together
in what is like a cocoon or a womb of the universe
The universe holds you together
A beautiful new, magical family of love
All of you as a family
And your strong love will see you through
Challenges, and obstacles
As you visualize your new family member’s face,
Whether they are a little newborn baby or an older adopted child or stepchild,
Or an adult life partner of yours, perhaps with children and pets making a beautiful family,
You will accept them.
You will not try to change them or train them to your liking
But will accept and love them for who they are.
They are wondrous and beautiful and a gift
From the universe
Their love and your family is a gift for
You will look at them and see them
And practice loving kindness compassion towards them
And when you forget at times
Or get frustrated
You will remember.
And then come back
To your loving kindness compassion
And you will look at them again
And see them
With fresh open eyes and mind.
And you will listen to them and hear them.
Their voices are beautiful
And their song a gift to you from the universe.
A beautiful song that sounds out from your family
As you live together in joy and gratitude.
Say these words to yourself in your heart.
May we live together in harmony,
And loving kindness compassion.
Listening to each other,
And seeing each other.
Loving and accepting ourselves and our family.
For whom I am so grateful.
We are blessed.
Sit with your feelings and thoughts for a time and when you are ready, write in your journal on the following ideas or anything that is in your heart.
1. Who is your new family? Write down three things that you love and accept about them or each of them.
2. Think of how your life was different before they became part of your family and write down three ways that your life is better now.
3. What are some ways that it is important to you that you can support them in their own journey either now or if they are newborn, as they get older?
4. Life with family can include many beautiful moments, what are some memories that you are looking forward to making with them? Write down three that you are looking forward to.
